In memory of a great lady [27 Apr 2007|08:21pm]

I first read about this in People magazine this afternoon, and knew I couldn't let something like this go unsaid.

Kitty Carlisle Hart, who played Rosa Castaldi in Night At the Opera, passed away on April 17 after a bout with pneumonia. She was 96 years old.

I loved her interview on the NatO DVD as part of the making-of segment. And that one of her memories of making that film was Harpo proclaiming "Lunchie! Lunchie!" when it was time to stop filming for lunch.

Addio, Rosa. Say hi to Harpo and the others for us.

Harpo Speaks [13 Mar 2007|08:54pm]

I assume you've all heard/seen this.

OH MY GOD [24 Feb 2007|12:06am]

[ mood | chipper ]

Just got some information that Bill Marx is putting out a brand new book all about our favorite pantomimist, which is available here:

Though for some reason Amazon is saying it isn't released yet... I hope it doesn't take months to deliver.

I'm sure most of you already know or have other plans but I just noticed that they're airing all of the Marx Brothers films back to back tonight on TCM starting as of an hour ago. Glee!!

Hello, everyone! Newbie here [18 Aug 2006|03:05pm]
Ever since I saw Duck Soup I became addicted to Harpo Marx. And it was even before that, when I saw him appear on the I Love Lucy show. How many of you know what I'm talking about? hehe Anyway, you're all welcome to add my journal. I'd love to meet more Harpo fans! :)

harp on film? [09 Aug 2006|11:17pm]

[ mood | benson ]

Just thinking about this earlier when some friends and I were discussing the perfect casting of Jeeves & Wooster (UK TV series featuring a double act of well known comedians in the PG Wodehouse stories) and I may have mentioned it before here, but thoughts please.

About ten years ago I read of rumours that Marks & Gran (very successful UK sitcom writers, who've also done some Hollywood screenwriting) were desperate to make a Harpo film - they'd talked to Susan, looked into the rights, come up with a rough script - and had come up with their ideal lead. Obviously the film never turned up, but their rumoured ideal lead was... Robin Williams??
I was appalled at this. No way is Robin Williams our Harpo. I came up with mine, easily. Teller, of Penn and Teller? Has the right face (and forehead!) is a little sweet , lovable guy, never talks in his act, plays instruments, and does the magic stuff.

I'd love to see that. Am I right, or who would you love to see as our boy?

(Sorry for any patronising explanations of the UK stuff you US guys might not know, I'm just assuming...)

Edit: oh and e.g this type of thing?

Further edit: just realised you US lot will spell it "rumored" right? Sorry?

Everything I need to Know in Life.. [20 Jul 2006|05:17pm]

[ mood | embarrassed ]

So for a couple months I have been working on getting together a set of icons from this site which has a list of "Everything I need to know in life.." So I figured that it would be pretty cool to have those on icons because they totally rock and I hope the guy doesn't hate me for doing that. So that's what I did..and now I think I'm rambling and feel as if I can't spell anything right today so I'll just stop and show you the link..

hiii. new to this community, but i've grown up on the marx brothers (mostly the earlier films, up to day at the races)..

just felt like commenting. i just watched at the circus and the ending had me in stitches! sooo, so funny. poor margaret dumont, i really do admire her for all she put up with! i love all the madcap mayhem.

also wondering, as i saw someone on here was really exceptional at making animated icons, if someone could possibly make me an animated icon of harpo with the seal towards the beginning of the film? i'd appreciate it!

A question inspired from a book about vaudeville that I'm reading:

What do you think Harpo would do when/if he caught any of the women he was chasing?

The obvious answer isn't satisfactory to me, it doesn't seem to be with his character. He seems more puppyish to me, so I think he would just release the girl, give her ten seconds and take off after her again.

I'm looking for a reliable place online to purchase Marx Brothers t-shirts

I've tried ebay, but I'm looking for something screenprinted, & everything there appears to be an iron-on transfer. If anyone could help me out, it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanksss.

I need to write a short bio on Harpo Marx. Short is used rather losely. As long as it isn't a book, I am ok.
Can anyone help me out?
